“THIS, YOUR SONG” STORY

Have you ever experienced something so profound you weren’t quite sure what to do with it?

‘This, Your Song’, the song my album was named after, was born out of a vivid experience I had in a worship service. I saw myself emerging from a forest to the edge of a high cliff with magnificent views of villages dotted throughout the valleys and lush mountains. I was running and dancing along the edge of the cliff screaming into the wind “Ho-ly” as though I was taking territory. It felt like I was joining with the heart of someone who had gone before and who had trodden this path before me.

As I looked over the edge, a Pterodactyl (yes, this surprised me!) scooped me up, circling me down over the valley below. I could see a man from a small village digging in his garden. He couldn’t see me but he looked up, and as he did, he started rising, as did the sun behind him. The sun continued to rise, lighting up the scene, and as light touched each village, people were drawn to look up, recognizing something significant was happening within and around them.

In the next scene, I saw people from different cultures with hands raised singing “Holy, Holy”: a business woman behind her desk in a plush high-rise building office, a school bus driver in his driver’s seat with kids in tow, a girl with a dirty face on the streets from poverty.

Every time I played “This, Your Song” on my piano at home, it felt like the heart of God was exploding with love over the earth. The presence of God was so strong and his desire to know us and be known was tangible. I knew the song couldn’t stay in my lounge room. Recording ‘This, Your Song’, I wanted to convey  what I was sensing - that God is holy, sovereign, all knowing, the source of our being, but also sees each one of us as we go about our daily lives. He longs to be part of our day and is drawing us as his light opens our eyes to the knowledge of who he truly is.
